About
Stanton is many things … a home, a piece of history, a patch of earth, a work in progress, a business, an inspiration. We are constantly discovering new things about the house as it evolves into its new life as an historic bed and breakfast.
And we are not alone … since opening in January 2005, we have found many others who are seeking more than just a bed for the night, and who have vowed to return with more time to spend on renewing their acquaintance with music, art, literature and nature, while enjoying comfort, relaxation, and good old-fashioned hospitality.
The magnificent convict-built country manor, Stanton, was built in 1817. It is situated on one of Tasmania’s first land grant sites comprising 16 acres of pasture and orchards at Magra, in the heart of the historical and beautiful Derwent Valley.
While surrounded by idyllic countryside including mountains, rivers, pasture and orchards, the property is easily accessed and only a short 5 minutes from New Norfolk and 35 minutes from Hobart.

Hi,
Love the website!
I can’t wait till my family can come and stay at the house.
We have always wanted to. And it would be great to have the sense of feeling that my family lived in the house long ago!
Thanks!
Hi
Sorry to read the sad news.
We stayed at the Stanton in 2007 to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. Loved not only the place but the way in which we were treated. For sure when you open again, and we are back in Tassie, we will be there.
Take care
Mark, devastated to hear your news. Hope you are able to reopen very soon. Best Regards.
